This is the only melodica I have purchased that was hopelessly out of tune out of the box. Fortunately, I only paid $15 for it (new), with the main purpose of taking it apart to practice tuning. It is at the Toy end of the melodica spectrum; it came so out of tune, though, that I would not advise buying it for a child unless you're just looking for something to make noise with. By contrast, the 25 key Yamaha Pianica is of much higher quality. So it's what I would recommend if you want a really compact melodica.
